1. Embedded commitment: The company has a policy commitment to ongoing stakeholder engagement, and embeds it in its governance, culture, and management strategy.​

A Focus on Those Most at Risk​:  The company prioritizes engaging with the rightsholders who are most likely to be harmed by its operations​, and therefore where early engagement is critical.​​

  • Are workers free to participate in union activities and raise concerns without fear of retaliation? If so, what measures are in place to protect this freedom?
  • Regardless of union membership, do you ensure that workers who submit grievances do not face retaliation or adverse consequences? How?

What to look for
  • The engagement process for workers should allow paid time off for worker participation. It must also uphold workers’ right to union representation.[1]​​​​​
